The Richardson Police Department Bicycle Patrol Unit was established in 1990 in an effort to reduce crime in areas that had seen a rise in drug activity, assaults and burglaries. They are deployed, as necessary,  to address specific crime and disorder problems in areas where their mobility can be maximized.
